THOUSANDS FLEEING FROM AREA
CALCUTTA, October 18. Twenty-five thousand people are reported to be fleeing from the Noakhali and 'l'ippera districts, says tbe British United .Press correspondent. The statement that 5,000' were killed is denied by the Bengal Government, which in a statement to the Press says: “ The figures are not yet available, but present information does not indicate that the casualties are heavy.” The ‘ Statesman ' says that 10,000 refugees are flocking into Chandpur from four towns which ate under the control of mobs. The refugees say they had to use jungle tracks and avoid the railway. Forty were treated at Chandpur for injuries. Mixed crowds cheered Lord Wavell as he drove through some -of the districts of Bombay where the worst of the recent communal riots occurred, reports Reuter’s correspondent. The Goverqor of Bombay Province and the commanders of the Bombay area, together with city police, accompanied him on a 90-minute tour.
