Mr G. P. Cuttriss. of Oamaru, has announced his candidature: for the Oamaru / electorate :at the General Election, as an Independent Liberal. Raymond Dudley, of Christchurch, will arrive in Dunedin this afternoon as the guest minister to take the services in connection with the sixty-fourth anniversary of the Cargill lload Wesley Church. . Sergeant and Mrs C. Bohn, of Dunedin. are' included in tho draft of services personnel which is due to arrive iu New Zealand by the Rangitata about October 23. The Rev. W. H, Greenslade, of Christchurchj has accepted a unanimous invitation to become superintendent minister of the Wellington Methodist Central/ Circuit. The Christchurch East circuit has invited the Rev. V. R. Jamieson, M.8.E., to succeed Mr Greenslade in 1947. At the annual meeting of the Astronomical branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Mr W. D. Anderson, F.R.A.S., was re-elected chairman. In acknowledgment, Mr Anderson said he felt proud to be considered worthy of a position previously filled by such men as Professor Park, ’ Professor White, Mr R. Gilkison, Professor Jack, and Mr John f C. Begg. The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, has been advised of the bestowal By Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, of the Flying Cross upon Squadron-leader R., D. Daniell, of Masterton. The recipient will be -invested with the decoration by the Consul-General for’ the Netherlands, Dr Jonkheer Van Panhuys, at a'ceremony on Monday. Squadron-leader Daniell, who’holds the D.FC. and A.F.C., towed glider aircraft on the first day of the airborne invasion of Holland, was later engaged in dropping supplies in the Arnhem area, and received a citation for displaying high courage and fortitude, and setting an excellent example in the face of in-, tense enemy opposition. Master Billie Chambers, 12-year-old boy soprano, will leave for Sydney next year to further his studies in singing and elocution. 1 He has been a consistent first prize winner at Dunedin . and Christchurch competitions over the past seven years, ana. has. received warm praise from the various Ses.
