WATERSIDERS’ CLAIMS
PAYMENT FOR ATTENDANCE NO DECISION BY COMMISSION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct, 18. After the hearing of claims by the waterside workers for an attendance fee of 14s, when no work is available, and of claims of the employers for a continuation of the present’ systerii, under which no payment is made for attendance, the Waterfront Industry Commission adjourned yesterday without a decision being reached on the matter. The chairman of the commission, Mr Justice Ongley,. said to-day that the commission was' not meeting at present as some of the members were on the West Coast discussing matters affecting conditions at Greymouth and Westport in connection with payment for attendance. The national secretary of the Watersiders’ Union, Mr T. Hill, when asked about the failure of the commission to agree, had no comment to make. He said the national executive of the Watersiders’ Union would hold a special meeting next week to discuss policy matters, but he wou!d_ not state if these included the Operation of the Waterfront Commission'.
