NATIONAL TOURNEY MOHOGHAH WINS WELTER TITLE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 17. Brilliant displays by N. Legross (Wellington), wlio won the bantamweight section, and D. Mudgway (Hnwera), ■ ! winner of the featherweight section, were the outstanding features of the New Zealand amateur wrestling championships finals contested to-night. The standard showed a marked improvement on the opening day’s, performances, better mat technique being revealed. The main weakness lyas in the comparative absence of counter-holds. BANTAM-WEIGHT. • Semi-final.—N. Legross (Wellington) , Bst 101 b; beat C. Thorne (Wairarapa), Bst 91b by a fall in the second minute. 1 Final.—Legross beat Donaldson (Otago), Bst 101 b, by a fall in the eighth minute, giving one of the fastest and cleverest displays of the tournament. FEATHER-WEIGHT. Winner, D. Mudgway (Hawera); runner-up, 0. IRuby (Wellington). , LIGHT-WEiGHT. Final. —W. Adams (Wellington), lOst -51 b, beat R. Smith (Christchurch), lOst lib, on points. Adams had the upper'hand throughout, showing greater skill in applying and maintaining holds. ' WELTER-WEIGHT. Winner, J. Monoghan (Otago); runner-up, K. Mahoney (Wellington). MIDDLE-WEIGHT. Final, J. Patterson (Wellington), 12st, beat IR. Tourell (Otago) on points, generally having the better of the bout. LIGHT HEAVY-WEIGHT. . Final. —R. Herstich (Wellington), 13s’t 81b, beat J. Price (Wairarapa), 13st 41b, by a fall in the first minute. Price received an injured leg. HEAVY-WEIGHT. Final. —R. Herstich (Wellington), 13st 81b, beat N. Smith (Christchurch), 12st 121 b, by a fall in the sixth minute. Herstich was too powerful for his opponent.
