PETITION TO PRIME MINISTER (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 18. The signatures of about 1,000 members of the Public Service in Auckland have been appended to a petition asking the Prime Minister to refrain from making an appointment to the Public Service Commission of a nominee of the Public Service Association until such time as the nominee and manner of the selection have been approved 'by a general meeting of all sections of the association. The chairman of the Auckland section of the Public Service Association (Mr O’Connell) said the Auckland section had not submitted a nomination officially, although representatives of nearly all departments had made suggestions which would be submitted to a meeting in Wellington. He. was not able to comment on rumours that a past president of the association had been ‘ selected as the nominee of the association, or on official statements published replying to rumours.
