MEETING OF BOARD -.The monthly meeting of the board of govenors of John McGlaslian College was held ton Thursday evening, when those present were—Mr A. C. Cameron (in the, chair), Revs. H. A. Mitchell, J. J. Cairiiey, H. J. Ryburn, Drs H. D. Skinner, A. Borrie, Messrs T. C. Ross, J. R. Benson, W. S. Gilkison, , N. R. Macalister, A. M. Cameron, and J. Coholly (headmaster).' Reference was made to the death of * Mr John Williams, who had given outstanding* assistance as a teacher at the college during the war years.. ■ In connection with ..the retirement from the board of Dr J. R.' Elder, a minute was recorded expressing great•appreciation of his services to the col- , lege over a period of 16 years. . . The Rev. J. W.-Mackenzie, of Maori : Hill, was appointed chaplain to the college. - ■ Congratulations were tendered to the Rev. H. A. Mitchell upon the award to him of an American war honour following upon his work as a chaplain while a prisoner- of war m Germany. . . It was reported that satisfactory progress was being made towards pro*. viding extra class rooms to accommodate the increasing number-of. pupils. Extension to the heating system was - authorised. Following upon an offer of generous financial assistance by the John McGlashau Association, it was ; decided to proceed with the filling-in of the gully between the college grounds’-and the golf course. ; This will have the effect of materially increasing the area available for games. An increase in the teaching staff for 1947 was decided upon.
