NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
SEVERAL OTAGO SUCCESSES
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 16. Considering that many associations were in recess during the war, entries were good and a fair standard was seen when the New Zealand amateur wrestling championships, the first to he held since 1939, were commenced in the Town Hall to-day. One of the most impressive performances was in the feather-weight section by D. Mudgway (Hawera), who beat J. Genet (Christchurch), the former champion and New Zealand representative at the British Empire Games in Sydney. The tournament will be continued to-mor-row, and the finals will be staged in the evening. The results, the decision being by a fall except where otherwise stated, are as follows: BANTAM-WEIGHT.
