CARPENTERS’ UNION

ANNUAL MEETING There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Carpenters’ Union, and the chairmau was Air W. T. AlcAlillan. He presented the annual report, and gave a resume of the most important matters dealt with by the union during the past 12 months. The report was adopted. ’ The Secretary reported that the membership had now reached 776. Most of the claims dealt with had been settled, and one or two disputes had been settled by agreement between the employers and the men on the jobs. Taking into account that there had been considerable expenditure involved in the seventieth anniversary celebrations last September,.,the balance sheet showed a satisfactory position. The balance sheet, was .adopted. The report of the returning officer on the voting in the postal _ballot for officers and executive Was read by the president, the result being as follows: — Air H. D. Armour, president; Air G. F. Schriffer, vice-president; Mr Samuel Ikin. secretaryexecutive—Messrs C. D. Booth. W. Harrison, S. Hill, A. W. Foster, and R. P. Bell. After the installation of the new officers the meeting adjourned for supper. Upon resumption, the election of delegates to. other bodies was carried out as follows:—Otago Labour Representation Committee—Messrs Schriffer. Evans, Harrison, and O’Neal; Otago, Trades Council, of the Federation. of Labour—Messrs Evans, Ikin, Baird, and Harrison.
