CARE OF MOTHERS
EXTENDING UNIVERSITY TRAINING CHAIR OF OBSTETRICS , { —, The appeal for the establishment of a post-graduate chair in obstetrics and gynaecology in New Zealand still required' £25,000 to complete the required amount of £IOO,OOO, said Mr J. T. R. Oliver,. honorary Dominion organiser of the appeal, addressing a public meeting of Dunedin citizens in the Council Chamber this morning. Of the £75,000 collected so far, Auckland had subscribed £53,000. Two donations of £5,000 each had been given by the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Electric Power Board. “ The establishment of the chair will be a great benefit to our mothers and their children,” said Mr , Oliver. “There is an urgent need for postgraduate training here, and although the chair is to be situated at Auckland, its advantages will be felt from Whangarei to Invercargill.” “ It has been difficult to arouse any enthusiasm in this city for this appeal,” said the Mayor, Mr D. C. Cameron, who presided. “So many other calls have been before the public that it has been hard to get them to realise the urgency of the matter.” Mr Cameron stressed that all work connected with organising the appeal was done voluntarily. The local committee and Mr Oliver were all honorary workers. The principal Dunedin donations received to date are as followsßoss and Glendining Ltd., £500; Kempthorne,' Prosser, and Co., Cadbury Fry Hudson Ltd., and D.1.C., £100; New Zealand Breweries Ltd., £25.
