DUNEDIN CRICKET CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING A sound financial position, a satisfactory membership, and a complete harmony among the members were disclosed in the annual report and balance sheet and in the remarks of the speakers at the annual meeting of the Dunedin Cricket Club, which was held in the University Club room last night. Mr R. C. Torrance, sen., was in the chair. The annual report inter alia, that , the senior eleven, while not very successful in the competition, had enjoyed their cricket, and appreciation was expressed of the cordial relationship which had existed between the Carisbrook and Dunedin Clubs in respect to the . personnel of the eleven under the amalgamation scheme. Tho position regarding material was stated to be satisfactory, two nets having been procured during the year. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, referred to the prospects for the coming season as bright. New members had enrolled and former members had returned from war service. The building fund, for the instigation of, which Mr G. R Russell had been responsible in pre-war days, was in a flourishing condition, and it was hoped that, with the co-operation of the City Corporation. the amenities at Tonga Park would be greatly improved, and that the club would be able to create, a home there.

■ Mr G. A. Wycherley seconded the motion. He urged the building up of the playing strength of the club so that it might take its former place as one of the leaders. Mr J. A. Robson stressed the necessity for improvement in practice wickets and playing facilities generally. He considered that the preparation of the grounds should be the responsibility of the City Corporation, and that the work should be placed in the hands of an expert. ’ Mr G. R. Russell was elected president in succession to' Mr R. C. Torrance, who was thanked for his faithful services during his long period of occupation of that office. Twentythree vice-presidents, were re-elected, and to these were added Messrs R. C. Torrance, sen., and T. Ritchie Other office-bearers chosen were:— Patron, Mr J. A. Robson; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. B. Dawson; assistant secretary, Mr J. Bulger; club captain, Mr R. Leggett; deputy club captain, Mr W. J. Lennox; committee —Messrs J. Young, A. Reid, G. A. Simons, F. Wedlake, J. Wedlake, and K. Hellyer; delegates to O.C.A.—■ Messrs Young, Russell, and J. Wedlake; delegate to Sports Protection Association, Mr Bulger; delegate to Boys’ Cricket Association, Mr Bulger; Selection Committee—Messrs Young, Wedlake, and F. Wedlake; auditor, Mr C. E. Eyre.

The official opening day was fixed for October 5, and it was decided that trophies won during last season be presented on that occasion. ■lt was resolved that the.membership subscription remain asO it was last year.
