BREACH OF CONTRACT
RAILWAY.REFUSAL TO GARRY PAPERS HEAVY DAMAGES AWARDED ‘SYDNEY HERALD 1 (Rec. 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 15. Ruling that the Railway Department had committed a breach of contract by refusing to carry newspapers, the Supreme Court awarded the proprietors of the ‘ Sydney Morning Herald 1 £8,937 damages against the Commissioner of Railways. The verdict was for the full amount the company estimated to be its loss resulting from the railway’s refusal to cam, during the newspaper dispute of October 1944. the emergency issue of the ‘ Herald ’ incorporating Sydney’s other three daily’ newspapers. 1
