Hunting Mac hit hard at the first fence and dropped his rider. Prize Ring pulled his way to the front early from Brantome, Dumbo taking up third place, followed by The Monarch, Bramble Song. Rounding the home turn Prize Ring was in front and led over the stand hurdle from Brantome and Dumbo with Bramble Song handy. Prize, Ring was still the leader leaving the straight, Dumbo running up into second place, closely trailed by Bramble Song and Brantome. Dumbo joined Prize Ring six furlongs from home and a furlong further on was in front with Bramble Song, which hit hard, , though he did not lose any ground. Bramble Song and Dumbo had a break of four lengths to Boolamskee approaching the four furlongs, with Prize Ring and Test Pilot further back. Bramble Song, drew clear of Boolamskee and soon passed Dumbo. Though Bramble Song was tiring, he held on to win by a length. Bramble Song carried £2.024 10s and £1,743,105.
