SURGEON-COMMANDER ARNOLD PERRY. V.D., 0.8. E.
Surgeon-commander Arnold Perry V.D., R.N.Z.N.V.R., who has been awarded the 0.8. E. (Military Division), is a well-known local medical practitioner. Before the outbreak of the Second World War he served with the local division of the Naval Volunteer Reserve, and on the outbreak of war was called up for active, service with the Navy, with which he served as surgeon for about six years. Dr Perry, who is a graduate of the Otago Medical School, is well known in Rugby circles. As a .member of the University team he was a very fine five-eighth, playing in company with W. R. Fea at a time when the students had a very formidable back line. He represented Otago on 16 occasions, from 1920 to 1923, and played for the South Island in 1924. He played for New Zealand against New South Wales in 1923. His playing days over, he gave long service to the game on the administrative side, being a member of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Union from 1927 to 1940. when he left to join the Navy. He was president of the O.R.F.U. in 1936 and 1937. MISS MARY LOUiSE ROBERTS, 0.8. E. Miss Mary Louise Roberts, 0.8. E., retired on May 1 of this year after 21 years as director of the Dunedin School of Massage, the only training centre for masseurs in New Zealand. During her long term of office most of the masseurs now practising in the Dominion passed through her hands. It was largely as the result of her untiring efforts that the school expanded rapidly, the number of students increasing from four in 1924 to 73 in 1946. Miss Roberts was trained in Dunedin and later at St. Thomas's Hospital, London.
