FORBURY PROSPECTS
NAVIGATE A FORM HORSE LOGAN REY IN SPRINT The Forbury Park Trotting Club will hold the concluding day of its winter meeting to-morrow. The good fields engaged give every indication of providing a further excellent day’s racing. The 'rain that lias fallen up till the time of writing will not affect the track greatly, and it will dry out very quickly once the weather clears. 11.15 I’AHUNA HANDICAP, £2oo. Class 3.43. l}m. Ahikiwi ... scr Sure Maid ... scr Arion Bingen scr Sure Peg ... scr Christmas Tatsyjale ... scr Queen ... scr Tell Us ... scr Dinero scr Tolerate ... scr Elverne ... scr Sealand ... 12 Happy . Cathay ... Cathay, Ahikiwi, Mistydale, and Lucky Bill filled the places last week, while Sure Note was close up after breaking over the final 100yds. Sure Peg was trotting very smoothly when she touched the sulky in front of her, causing her to break up rather badly. Sealand and Kerwood Bingen are two newcomers to the field. The latter is a very reliable trotter and a recent winner, but his task from 120yds looks difficult. Those to find strongest support may be: Sure Note. Cathay. Ahikiwi. 12SOUTHLAND HANDICAP. £325. • Class 3.33. lim. Checkmate ... scr Great Show 12 Nelsonova ... scr Quite Worthy 12 Never Sure ... scr Valola ... 12 Royal Gamble scr Daisy Gold 24 lloyal Direct Pageantry scr Medium ... 24 Darrington Hall ... ... 12 On the first day' Checkmate ran an exceptionally good race to finish third after losing valuable ground at the start, and then being forced to cover more, ground on the outside of the fi6ld, ■ Nelsonova and Darrington Hall were handy throughout, and should again give a good account of themselves. Vaiola was one of the favourites last week, but, after being the early leader, tired into fifth place. However, she is likely to have benefited by the race, and may be found-staying on better tomorrow. The remainder of the field would have to show a vast improvement to hold a winning chance. With Golden Game, last eeek’s winner, out of. the way, the favourite to-morrow is likely to come from Checkmate, Darrington Hall, Nelsonova. 12.45—•„*' - • . ' 1 PItCTFIC HANDICAP, £456: Class 4.40. 2m. The field for the Pacific Handicap contains two first day winners in Nellie Fraser and Paddy Potts. Nellie Fraser won in 3.21 4-5 from a 3.29 mark, and if she repeats this performance she ; must be seriously considered here. / Paddy Potts has gone back 48yds for / his success, but he won so convincingly that his penalty may not stop “him. Paddy Potts will be bracketed with Hargood’s Pride, and if they both start the pair will probably go out favourite. Tom Gundy and Czardas both ran two excellent races on Saturday, and are sure to be in demand again. Janet Hall, Notus, and Convincer disappointed last week, but may be capable of a better performance to-morrow. In the event of the coupled horses not starting, the following will find support:— Tom Gundy. Czardas. Notus. 1.30 JAMES MEMORIAL HANDICAP, £7OO. Class 4.34. 2m. Communique scr Elvo’s Pride 48 Elation ... scr Fancy Goods 48 Lou Hall ... scr Radical ... 48 Princess Navigate ... 72 Maritza ... 24 The principal race of the day has again drawn, a field of eight and should provide a good contest. The first day’s, winner, Radical, will be coupled with Elvo’s Pride, who ran third, and later won the last race. Elation failed to stay in the Ritchie Memorial; and Princess Maritza also stopped over the final furlong. Lou Hall ran disappointingly in the sprint, but may be better suited here. Fancy Goods failed to show up at any stage of the race on Saturday and is not likely to improve. Communique ran a good race without being really dangerous. Navigate has gone back 12yds for his second and meets the winner on 24yds better terms. He was not well placed in the running and appeared to be a trifle unlucky. . The following, should prove the best propositions:— Navigate, , Princess Maritza, " Radical—Elvo’s Pride bracket. 2 ig RAILWAY HANDICAP, £425. Class 3.52. Trotters, lm sf. Belle Header scr Mamanuas ... scr Flying Scott Bcr Mistydale ... scr Kerrwood Frank Scott 48 Bingen ... scr Nationalist 48 Belle Header will be making his first appearance at the meeting when he starts in the first- race, aud unless he can win it he has not much Aiow here. Mistydale should account for those off the limit, and it vis doubtful if Frank Scott will be capable of giving her 48yds. Frank, Scott was very lucky to beat Mistydale on the first day, as he got through on the inside of her and saved a lot of ground. Flying Scott and Nationalist failed to leave a good impression on Saturday, while Mamanuas ran a fair race to finish ' fourth. Kerwood Bingen’s effort in the first race will be ( the best guide to his chances here. The following are selected:— Mistydale. • Kerwood Bingen, Frank Scott.

Grattan Drive and Tony Grattan both spoilt their chances on the first day by failing to go away smoothly, and should make amends. Minmi Boy and Understudy were well placed throughout last week and finished third and fourth, while Justify and Jolly [Biddy were closer at the finish than at any other part of the race. Copper Trail ran second at Wyndham in 3.37 3-5, equal to about 3.21 for a mile and a-half. Sterling Castle has some good performances to his credit, and is not without a chance here. The following should race prominently :, Golden Game. Minmi Boy. Tony Grattan. 3.45 f ROYAL HANDICAP, £4OO. Class 3.8. lm 3f. * Convincer ... scr Redcliffe . Doonholme ... Honest Peter and Tom Gundy ran a dead heat for third place on the first day, only a neck behind Czardas, with Northern Lass and Harfood’s Pride also close behind the placed orses. Max Baer became prominent early in the running, and was still in the firing line when the post was reached. At present it looks like Czardas, Tom Gundy, Northern Lass. 4.30 FAREWELL HANDICAP, £SOO. Class 3.5. lm 3f. Grattan Bells scr Positive ... 12 Logan Rey ... scr Princess Paddy Potts scr - Maritza ... 24 Communique 12 Elyo’s Pride 48 Elation ... 12 Radical ... 48 Lou Hall ... 12 Logan Rey attempted. to lead from end to end in the sprint on Saturday and only failed in the last furlong. Positive, Lou Hall, Grattan Bells, and Elation had every chance after being just in behind the leader over the early stages. Princess Maritza was not favoured very well by the running, and it was a good effort on her part which got her up into second place. F.lvo’s Pride came from the rear with a splendid run, and even though she is now 48yds behind, she must be regarded as a possibility. Those likely to find strong support are:— Logan Rey, Princess Maritza, Elvo’s Pride —Radical bracket.
