OBITUARY

——<■ — ' MR WILLIAM JOHNSTON SAN FRANCISCO, May 1. The' death has occurred, at the age of 51 years, of Mr William Johnston, the former Davis Cup player, from a heart attack. He was a contemporary of W. T. Tilden, by whom he was overshadowed, but his greatness as a player was shown by the fact that he was capable of defeating all his other contemporaries. He visited New Zealand in 1920 when the United States regained the Davis Cup from Australia, Tilden and Johnston 'defeating Brookes and Patterson.
