—Ministerial.— Tho Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon.. P. Fraser) will visit Dunedin to opem the New Zealand School of Physiotherapy at the Dunedin Public Hospital on May 1.
Mr Walter Sinton, of Charles Begg; and Co. Ltd., left for the north to-day to complete arrangements for the forthcoming Dominion tour of Angela, Parselles, the Corent Gardon soprano, who has arrived in Wellington. v Mr L. E. White, manager of. the Dominion Rubber Company in Malaya, who was interned by the Japanese early in the war, is at present in Dunediu! Mr Anthony H. Thomson, of Dunedin, was re-elected president of the New Zealand and Australian Chiropractors' Association at the recent conference of the association. After an absence of about two months, during which he attended the first meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Bank and Monetary Fund as observer for New Zealand, the deputy director of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Mr E. C. Fussell, returned to New Zealand yesterday by Tasman Empire Airways flying boat. Mr Fussell travelled to Wellington by air this morning. / , Colonel D. D. McCarthy, a Dunedinborn member of the Colonial medical service, returned to New Zealand on leave by the Highland Princess and wa» met by his wife, who has been in th«> Dominion since the outbreak of the recent war. Colonel McCarthy arrived in Dunedin yesterday, and is staying;, with his mother, Mrs W. D. McCarthy, of Musselburgh Rise. The Rev. T. W. Armour, who has been minister in charge of Knox Presbyterian Church in Christchurch since 1924, has resigned from the ministry of that church, and his resignation will be considered at.the next meeting of 'the Christchurch Presbytery. _ MiArmour, who has reached the retiring age of 65 years, has been asked to become administrator of the ■'Maintenance of the Ministry Committee of tho General Assembly. • - For the first time since 1939 scholarships for study at the Y.M.C.A. College at Springfield, Massachusetts, have been awarded to two "New Zealanders. They are Messrs Lloyd (McDonald, of Wellington, and Robert Leslie, director of the youth department at the Auckland Y.M.C.A.—Wellington Press Association. On the eve of his approaching marriage, Mr Charles Webster, who haa been on the staff of Messrs Eadie Bros. Ltd. for the past 16 years, was tho recipient, of presentations by the firm and staff at a luncheon given in his honour. Eulogistic references to the guest were made by members of the staff and Mr Tregea. Mr W. R- Sinclair, general manager of the Otago Daily Times and Witness Newspaper Company, was met by members of the staff on Wednesday on the eve of his departure for Britain as one of .the New Zealand delegation to the Empire Press* > Union Conference. A presentation was mads to him by Mr H. Harris on behalf of the staff, and good wishes were conveyed by Sir James Hutchison and Mr W. Dow. Mr Sinclair has been associated with the ' Otago Daily Times ' for over 50 years, during which his experience has extended over the printing, reading, literary, and commercial sides of the newspaper. He is the third member of the company to attend and Empire Press Union Conference. The others were Sir James Hutchison and the late Sir George Fenwick. Mr Sinclair left for the north yesterday.
