SALVATION ARMY SERVICE
NATION'S RESPONSE TO CRISIS A service of commemoration was conducted by the Salvation Army in the Citadel, Dowling street, last evening. Major A. E. Chandler, divisional commander, presided, supported by officera of metropolitan corps. The Citadel. Band was in attendance and played ' Tho Homeland,' and the songster* contributed ' Peace, Perfect Peace.' Brigadier A. S. Falconer, C.8.E., D. 5.0., M.C., E.D., gave a stirring address in which he traced the salient features of World War I. and the last war, pointing out the fact that throughout both campaigns one thing stood out, and that was " the spirit of Anzac." He urged that everyone show gratitude for this evidence that in the time of crisis the nation could still produce those elements of character which reached to heights of courage and achievement. Brigadier Falconer called for deeper understanding for the returned servicemen and women and a more lively interest in those on the Continent who were suffering the immediate causes of terrible years of devastating war. 'Last Post' and Teveille were sounded by Bandsmen Haywood, Carey, and Kitto. There was a large attendance.
