TECHNICAL COLLEGE

BOARD OF MANAGERS MEETS Mr J. J. Marlow presided at the monthly meeting of the King Edward Technical College Board of Managers yesterday afternoon. Those present were Mrs M. "E. Morris, Messrs L. Sanderson, W. Jacobsen, J. M. Patrick, V. R. Crawshaw, H. R. Bunn, C. J. Hnywood, and Dr, R. Gardner. A letter was received from the

secretary of the Otago and Southland Manufacturers' Association expressing gratification at the inclusion of a special science course for manufacturers' employees at the Technical College and at the building of the Home Science Wing. The report of the principal, Mr W. G. Aldridge, stated that the total number of evening studunts was 1,339 ( the highest number recorded in MarchApril for many years. Attendance and the spirit of work were even more remarkable, and it was clear that the presence of a large number of service-

men, whether in separate classes or mixed with other .students, coupled with the removal of all juveniles under 15 years, had. resulted in gains in dignity and interest. There-was an almost complete cessation of absenteeism on the part of Hillside apprentices. Mr Callaway had been informed that nearly the whole of the new instruments for the symphony orchestra were shipped from Loudon late in March. There was reason to hope, therefore, that they might arrive in time for use at the August concert. The report was adopted.
