LABOUR MEMBERS
CAUCUS DISCUSSION THE ELECTORAL CHANGES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April IG. Though no official information is available as to the subjects discussed at the caucus to-day of the Parliamentary Labour Party, the chief business is believed to have been the consideration of the revision of the electoral boundaries by the Representation Commission. The caucus, over which the Prime Minister (Mr Eraser) pre sided, met in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The new names given to some electorates are believed to have given rise to some criticism, but, on the other hand, it i's understood that there was general recognition that the changed composition of many electorates as a result of the commission's revision was inevitable in view of the fact that last year's legislation provided for European electorates with equal numbers of adult population. The selection of candidates is a task for the local Labour representation committees and the National Executive of the Labour Party, but it is presumed that reference was made to the future position of Labour members who have been dispossessed by the electoral changes. |
