■MONTHLY MEETING OF SOCIETY The monthly meeting of the Ota-go Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afternoon, Mr HI. Fountain presiding. A sub-committee, comprising Messrs J. Bews, T. Irvine, A. OlarK, and R. Fountain, was formed to inquire into the possibilities of supplying a car for the inspector. Mr Grant. It was suggested that Mr Grant might use his own private car, the only difficulty bethe purchase of new tyres. Mr Grant explained that if_ the car was registered hy the society it would be on priority for tyres, etc., . The same subcommittee was appointed to make further inquiries regarding the purchase of a 33-acre property at Opoho, where it was hoped to build kennels to house sick dogs. The committee will meet representatives of thn New Zealand Forest and Bird Society, which was prepared to spend £I.OOO on establishing a sanctuary. Mr Fountain stated that the society had a credit ■balance of about £o,00(),' and as the property in question would cost about £1.500.' he thought, that this amount should be spent on the care of dogs. The Blue Cross Society ,wns willing to co-operate. In submitting his monthly report, Mr Grant said he had attended the Oma'kau Show and also stock sales at Oturehua, Waipiata, Middlemarch. and Burnside. Following a complaint about the way poultry was being consigned on the railway, the Dunedin station master and the assistant traffic manager had been interviewed and an assurance given that the matter would be rectified.
