MEDITERRANEAN STRATEGY
RUSSIAN GRITIGISM OF BRITAIN (Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, March 24. Moscow radio, in a dozen broadcasts in the past 24 hours, has criticised Britain's foreign, colonial, and domestic policies, also chided the other Western allies. ' Red Fleet,' the Russian naval newspaper, quoted by (Reuter's Moscow correspondent, asserted: " Palestine is gradually being transformed into one of the most important bases for the British armed forces in the Eastern Mediterranean. One concludes that Britain is developing strategic and political positions in Palestine which have little in common with ' humanitarian considerations.' " The article, quoting foreign sources, went on to say that British troops are being transferred from Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon to Palestine, also that Haifa was to become more important for the Royal Navy than Malta and Alexandria. The article also referred to reports that the terminal of the oil pipe line from Saudi Arabia was to be in Palestine, and that a railway from Haifa ±o Bagdad was planned.
