EMPIRE PRIME MINISTERS
SERIES OF CONSULTATIONS IN LONDON IMPOSSIBLE TO ARRANGE SIMULTANEOUS MEETING (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 18. It is impossible to arrange the proposed April meeting of all commonwealth Prime Ministers simultaneously; therefore a series of consultations at times convenient to all concerned will begin on April 23 when Mr Chifley and Mr Fraser are in Loudon. This announcement was made in the House of Commons bv Mr Attlee. He said Field-Marshal Smuts would attend later in April and Mr Mackenzie King also later. The main subjects would ■ pertain to the Pacific, but the consultations would also afford an opportunity to discuss other matters of common concern. Mr Eden said it was a disappointment that the consultations would not be simultaneous, uvhich would have been more valuable. Mr Attlee said that after the conference meeting the Premiers had many more commitments. Mr Attlee told another questioner that; he saw no special reason for a debate before the consultations. He added that the whole House was aware of the need for closest working with the.dominions.
