“My instructions were to oppose bail, as this man is regarded as a dangerous criminal,” said Detective-sergeant . Thompson in the 'Wellington Magistrate’s Court to-day, when lloy Vincent, barman and baker, aged 30, appeared on two charges, one of being unlawfully in possession of an automatic pistol, and the other that, on or about March IS, he broke and entered the counting house of Te Aro Post Office and committed theft. The accused was remanded to March 27, and was granted hail in his own recognisance of £3OO and two sureties of £l5O each,—P.A. TROOPSHIP TAMAROA. A Christchurch Press Association says it is expected that the troopship Tamaroa'will arrive off Lyttelton Heads at 6 a.m. to-morrow and members of the draft will travel to Christchurch by special train arriving there at 8.30 a.m. Those for stations south of Christchurch will have breakfast at the railway station and leave later by the Dunedin express, the departure of which will be delayed slightly beyond the usual time. Personnel for points south of Dunedin will complete their jounrey by motor transport. WATERFRONT STRIKE More than 30,000 tons of shipping was immobilised at Lyttelton to-day when the waterfront dispute which lias paralysed shipping activities, entered its fifth day. No work was done in port except the unloading of mails and horses from the inter-island steamer Rangatira, and the loading of the Port Waikato, which is due to sail ■with stores for Pitt Island, in the Chathams group.—Press Association
