WOMEN'S GOLF

DUNEDIN CHAMPIONSHIPS Several of Otago's best lady golfers, besides representatives from Auckland, Masterton, Hamilton, Akaroa, Gore, and Invercargill are competing in the Dunedin women's championships, commenced in ideal conditions this morning on the St. Clair course, which was in first-class order. Overhead conditions were ideal, and there was an absence of the usual troublesome wind. The first qualifying round of the championship was played in conjunction with a medal round, and two Otago players and a St. Clair performer, returned the best cards with rounds of 86 and 87. The winner of the championship last year, an Invercargill representative, was only fourth on the list. The second qualifying round was played this afternoon. Eighty-seven entries have been received for the tournament.
