SEVERAL DEATH SENTENCES BELA IMREDY ALREADY EXECUTED (Rec. 11.40 a.m.) BUDAPEST, February 28. Bela Imredy, the former Hungarian Premier and Minister of Finance, was executed by a firing squad. He was convicted of war crimes and anti-Jewish acts.
ATHENS, February 28. The court martial condemned to death in his absence Evangelos Manganas, the outlawed leader of a band of the Royalist organisation, who led the attack on Kalamata last month. Twelve other men, 10 of whom were arrested after the uprising, received sentences ranging from life to 11 years. SINGAPORE, February 28.
The War Crimes Court sentenced to death by shooting the Japanese general, Fukei Shimpei. He was found guilty of being concerned in the killing of two British and two Australian prisoners, being concerned with illtreating other prisoners of war, and with trying to compel prisoners to sign pledges not to attempt to escape. The President of the court, in announcing the sentence, said the court, in the face of all the evidence it heard, was not prepared to make any recommendation for mercy.
