BROADCAST FOR ENEMY
LQVE-STRIGKEN JERSEY GIRL LONDON, Feb. 27. Pearl Joyce Vardon, a former school teacher on Jersey, was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment at the Old Bailey to-day after pleading guilty to six charges concerning broadcasts for the enemy. The defence stated that Vardon fell in love with a German occupation officer, and agreed to become a radio announcer so that she could go to Germany with him. Else Gertrude Brietzmann appeared at Bow Street charged with aiding the enemy. The prosecution said that since her return to' England in Septemberi the, Allies had found scripts and receipts in her name for broadcasts directed especially to India. Brietzmann, aged 35. went to Germany at the age of 12. She was committed for trial.
