POLICE FIRE INTO CROWD
STUDENT DEMONSTRATIONS IN EGYPT TROUBLE IN ALEXANDRIA AND CAIRO (Rec. 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 12. Two students were killed and 20 wounded by a police volley fired into a crowd of demonstrators, at Alexandria to-day, says Reuter's Cairo correspondent. The police first fired into the air and then against the demonstrators. The police charged a crowd of university and secondary school students who carried on antiBritish demonstrations. A number of students were injured by batons. The students earlier telegraphed King Farouk, among other things for the withdrawal of Egyptian support for Britain in the U.N.O. discussion on Indonesia. The students in Cairo, armed with sticks and stones, broke windows, and attempted to march from the university into the city,' The police manned a bridge across the Nile and intercepted the march. The procession was formed up after a meeting at the university, where the leaders 6houted: "Down with the Government! Down with England! Down with Nokrashy!" After the demonstration the students withdrew to the university, gathered on ' the roof of the medical faculty, and stoned passing vehicles, The police had to divert the traffic. Several .police were injured, The city is still out of bounds for [British and American servicemen.
It was stated later that six students were injured and 12 arrested during to-day's disturbances outside the university.
