j VISITING ANGLICAN lISHOPS i The thirtieth meeting of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of New Zealand will begin on Friday afternoon, and most of the visitors expected will arrive in Dunedin to-morrow. This, the first Ceneral Synod to be held in this city for 21 years, will be presided over by Archbishop West-Watson, of Christchurch. • ' Visitors expected will include Archbishop West-Watson, who will be the guest of Bishop and Mrs Fitchett; the Right Rev. Leonard Wilson, Bishop of Singapore, and Mrs Wilson, who will he guests of Mr and Mrs G. R. Ritchie; the Right Rev. W. J. Simkin, Bishop of Auckland and Mrs Simkin, who will be guests of Mrs W. F. Edmond, of "Mount Lodge," Melville street; the Right Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, who will be the guest of Archdeacon Whitehead at All Saints' Vicarage; the Right Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington, who will be the guest of Mr and Mrs A. A. Paape, at the Grand Hotel; the Right Rev. P. W. Stephenson, Rishop of Nelson, and Mrs Stephenson, who will be guests of Mr and Mrs R. C. Rutherford, of Melville street; the Right Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotenroa, who will be the guest of Mi- and Mrs R. C. T. Evnns, of Queen street; the Right Rev. L. S. Kompthorne, Rishop in Polynesia, who will be the guest of Mr John Kempthorne, of Boslvn; and the Right Rev. G. C. Crnidkstiank, Bishop of Waiapu, who will be a guest at the Law Courts Hotel.
The preliminary, service will be the evensong in St. Paul's Cathedral on Thursday, at 8 p.m., at which the guest preacher will be the Bishop of Singapore. On Friday morning there will be_ a special communion service at All Saints' Church, followed by breakfast in the Sehvyn College dining hall. The official onening will he held at 2.30 p.m. on Friday in All Saints' Church, when the Synod wjll he constituted, and the archbishop will deliver his charge to the mem hers. Thev will then adjourn to All Saints' Schoolroom, which will be the Synod hah. It is expected that the Svnod will meet dailv throughout the following week. On Wednesday Mrs Fitchett will entertain the wives of visiting, members, and the hostesses of all Synod members and the wives of the clergy at Bishop's House at afternoon ten. On Sunday the visiting bishops and clergy will occupy the pulpits in the city and some of the outlying churches.' Bishop Bennett will ''visit the Maoris in the various centres in the diocese, and will also preach at evensong in Tnvcrcargill on Sunday, Fehruarv 24.
There will he a mavoral welcome to the visitors on Thursday morning, and on Saturday afternoon they will be the guests at a garden party* at " Glenfa lloch," the home of Mr and Mrs P. Barling, at Macaudrew Bay. ,
