ST. KILDA AFFAIRS

COUNCIL'S FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last night, the mayor, Mr N.. D. Anderson, being in the chair. Councillors present were Messrs J, C. Cherry, R. S. Brent, A. H. Finnie, E. Longworth, J. H. Hinton, D. Telfer, P. J. B. Rendel, D. J. Simpson, T. B D. Hoy, and J. W. Pearson., Water consumption for the fortnight was 4,914,000 gallons, costing £2OO 8s 6d. In the previous fortnight the cost was £lB9 13s Bd. Accounts totalling £237 0s 7d were passed for payment. Receipts for the period were £6,090 4s Id, leaving a credit balance of £4,718 3s lid. Cr Simpson, in moving the adoption of the report of the Finance Committee, said that the rates struck during the year had been £24.396 10s 4d. and the amount collected to February 11 was £18,455 6s 7d, leaving £5.941 3s 9d outstanding. The amount collected to date equalled 75.64 per cent, of the rates struck, and the last dav for payment is Thursday next. A meeting of the Finance Committee will be called later to consider the matter of a donation to the St. Kilda Band, to help to defray expenses in connection with the forthcoming championships in Christchurch, when the band will defend its title.
