OTAGO V. AUCKLAND NO PLAY TILL AFTERNOON OTAGO BATTING An inspection of the wicket at Carisbrook this morning was made by the captains of the Auckland and Otago cricket teams, and it was found that the condition of the ground generally following-the early morning’s showers was such that no play would be possible before lunch. A further inspection was made at 1.30 p.m., and play commenced at 2 p.m. Otago won the toss to decided to bat. Hadlee and Bellamy opened to the bowling of Cleverly and Emery, and both were very cautious. With the score at 9 Bellamy fell to a catch by Cowie off Emery. Score at 2JIO p.m., Otago one tor 9.
