(P.A.) TIMARU, December 30. The Auckland - Plunket Shield team beat South Canterbury by nn innings and 14 runs. Against the home side’s score of 149, Auckland replied with 320, and disposed of South Canterbury for 157 in the second innings. With the exception of AA r . M. AVallace, how picked the local howling to pieces, the individual performances of the visitors were unspectacular, but the batting standard was high. For Auckland, Meuli made 29, Pearson 42, Emery 47, Cleal 43, Kerr 36, AVallace 41, and Burke 36 not out. Earwaker, with six wickets for 55 runs, , was the • most successful bowler for South Canterbury,_ whose best batsmen in the second innings were Riley 32, TJrquliart 23, Gould 19, Earwaker and ’Souter each 17. Cowie (three for 6) and Burke (four for 43) secured the best bowling figures for Auckland.
