POPULAR PICNIC’ MEETING SILVER SAL MAY REPEAT DUNEDIN WIN [By .Watcher.] If there is one meeting in the year looked forward fo by the racing public it is the Waikouaiti Racing Club’s annual New Year Day fixture. Though the club will aga/in be faced with transport difficulties —and possibly the weather, judged on its behaviour over the last 10 days—the enthusiast, however, generally manages to get to the meeting by some means. The Waikouaiti Cup is the event of the day, and', though Western Front will be missing, the remainder are a good lot, and include the Dunedin Cup winner Silver Sal. Brockie was veijy unlucky on Saturday at Wingatui. Burnbrae is from the same stable as Patmos, who appears more of a winning prospect. Deficiency will be suited by the small circuit. Grand' Forest is in good order at present, and ltoyal ltae may shape better than at Wingatui. Foxhaven showed a glimpse of form on Saturday, but the track might be a bit small for him. Silver Sal won the Dunedin Clip in solid style. Authentic was not produced at Wingatui, but on New Zealand Cup form must hold a great chance. Foxehase was finishing on well to be second to Great Coon at Wingatui. Eastern Coin is coming back to form. Peter Gazelle will probably be reserved for the open sprint, but, if not, will, despite his weight, be hard again. Montezuma looks like starting a hot favourite. Joy Rosa is due again, but the distance may be short for her. Lord (Roland, Patmos, or Grill also have good prospects. The favourite will be Montezuma, and Joy Rosa and.
