THE YEAR'S DEATH LIST.
The death of President Franklin Roosevelt, America's great war leader, on April 12, was a profound shock to the United Nations. Vice-President Harry Truman, who did not fail to follow in his ways, was his successor. Other deaths of the year have been those of Earl Lloyd George, Countess Oxford and Asquitb, Lord Lang (former Archbishop of Canterbury), Cardinal Joseph Macßory (Catholic Primate of all Ireland), Ex-President Calles, of Mexico, Lord Crewe (exSecretary for the Colonies), Lord Lugard (African administrator), Signor Orlando (ex-Italian Prime Minister), Mr John Curtin (Prime Minister of Australia, Marshal Shaposhnikov, General Sir Archibald Murray, General Sir Harry Chauvel, General G. S. Patton, Brigadier-general Sir Percy Sykes, Field-Marshal von Mackens'en, Admiral Bertram Ramsay, Admiral Lord Keyes, Sir William Marris, Sir Thomas Barlow (ex-President of the Royal College of Physicians), Lord Dawson of Penn (King's physician), Sir "William Rothenstein and Sir Bernard Partridge (artists), Lord Alfred Douglas and Mr Arthur Symons (poets), Mr John McCormack and Miss Ada Crossley (singers), Mrs Maud Diver (novelist), and Mr James Stanbury (ex-world sculling champion). Tho New Zealand obituary list includes Mr J. G. Cobbe (ex-Miniater of Defence), Mr Walter Jones (Invercargill), Mr T. E. Donne (first head of the Tourist Department), Mr F. Findlay, M.P., Mr H. J. Greenslade, exM.P., Mr E. W. Alison, ex-M.P. and ex-M.L.C, Mr E. C. Cutten, ex-S.M., Mr M. J. Reardon, Dr T. H. A. Valintihe (ex-Director-General of Health),' Mr W. H. Atack (ex-manager of the Press Association),, Mr William Thomas, Rev. W. J. Comrie (Presbyterian), Dr C. E. Adams (ex-Govern-ment Astronomer), Brigadier N. S. Falla. Mrs Peter Fraser, Miss Ursula Bethell (poetess), and Miss May Beatty (actress). Directly associated with Dunedin were Rev. V. G. Bryan King, Mr W. J. Morrell, Dr F. J. .Borrie, Captain A.
