THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY

The forty-ninth convention of the New Zealand section of the Theosophical Society commenced this week at Wellington, when delegates and members from all parts of New Zealand met at the Theosophical Hall. The keynote of convention was “ The Will to*World Unity.” The general secretary, Miss E. Hunt, who has completed seven years in office, was unanimously > re-elected. Her annual report showed much activity in the society, and the joining of many new members. Miss J. G. Montgomery, assistant general secretary and section treasurer, was reelected to those offices. Mr Geoffrey Hodsou, international lecturer, upon the resignation of Mr H. H. Banks, was appointed national lecturer for New Zealand. Members stood in silence to the memory of the late world president, Dr G. S. Arundale, and cabled greetings were sent to Mr C. Jinarajadasa, world president elect, at Adyar, India. Difficulty had been experienced in sending from the country the sum, running into four figures, collected for the rehabilitation .of Theosophical lodges devastated by the war. The report of the principal of Vasanta : Garden School, Miss B. H. Darroch, was read. This school, although situated in Auckland, is the responsibility of the whole section, and carries out many educational ideals. The' convention will continue 'with its various conferences and kindred activities and public lectures until New Year’s Day.

In December, 1946, the fifty years’’ jubilee convention will be celebrated in Auckland, which is the headquarters of the society in- New Zealand.
