LATEST FIGHTER PLANE
GLOSTER METEOR FOR N.Z. SERVICE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 27. The unpacking and assembly of tlio Gloster Meteor jet-propelled aircraft, which recently arrived from England on loan to the R.N.Z.A.F., will begin at Hobsonville when the normal station routine is rammed early in -January. The aircraft, the first of its type to reach New Zealand, was unloaded to-day from the Paparoa and taken by barge to Hobsonville. Detailed plans for the use of the aircrafi have not yet reached Auckland. After assembly it will be test flown, presumably from Hobsonville, the pilot being Squadron-leader R. M. McKay, a New Zealander, who has done a course of jet-propelled aircraft 'in Britain. The assembly will be undertaken by airmen at Hobsonville under the supervision of specialists of the R.N.Z.A.F., who have trained in Britain during the war. After being tested the aircraft is likely to visit other centres, and to be used for familiarising fighter pilots with this latest development of British aircraft engineering.
