DRUG TRAFFICKERS CONVICTED

INTELLIGENCE BUREAU’S ACTIVITIES (Rec. 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 26. A Jewish lieutenant, a and a private, and one British military driver have been tried and convicted for drug smuggling, reports Reuter’s Cairo correspondent. Two other Jews, allegedly members of the same gang of hashish. and opium smugglers, have still to be tried.

The magnitude of the operations was shown by the seizure of £38,000 worth of drugs. The discovery followed an attempt by smugglers to withhold drugs from a group of Egyptians with whom they had been trading. A new agent proved to be employed by the Narcotic Intelligence Bureau. Arrests followed and as a result of information secured the police raided a Jewish brigade’s camp and picked up other smugglers and found caches of drugs, including a quantity in a cookhouse.
