The programme book contains some 88 pages, with a special cover of light blue, and altogether it can be described as a really good job. The index takes up some 28 pages, and the space allotted to it is worth while, as one can discover in a few seconds just when and where one is playing. The council’s executive is to be complimented on the attention it has given to the setting out of the sections and greens for the three championships. “ Draw ” trusts that the tourney will be an unqualified success both in management and from the players’ aspect. The Late C. J. Payne.
By the death of “Charlie” Payne, which occurred on December 20, the Dominion lost one of its finest sportsmen. He was associated with, and worked for the advancement of, cricket, tennis, football, aiid bowls, but it was as a bowler, both as a player and legislator, that he will be long remembered. He was a very colourful player, a fine mate in a game, and a solid and worthy opponent. “Draw” can say that all who met Charlie Payne will agree that a very fine fellow has passed on.
