KURDS JOIN GARRISON
TURKEY REPUDIATES SOVIET CLAIMS (Rec. 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 23. Kurdish tribesmen joined forces with the besieged Rezaigh garrison, which is the last Azerbaijan town held by Go- • vernment forces still holding out against the autonomous forces, says Reuter’s Teheran correspondent. The Kurds, who have always opposed the Persian army’s authority, are now ac- ; tively aiding the regular Persian forces against the Assyrians and Caucasian Democrats, but their arms and ammunition reserves are reported to be insufficient to make a decisive contribution. The Associated Press’s Teheran correspondent says the polite Russian Embassy consular officials continue to withhold permits for foreign newspapermen and American State Department officials to visit Northern Persia. It-was explained that the military commandants had not approved the applications.
. The Istanbul uewspaper * Vakit ’ said that if Russia does not drop her claims Turkey will undoubtedly envisage war. Repudiating the claims of the Soviet Georgia, other Turkish newspaper comment has stressed that Turkey is not prepared to surrender territory.
