—Ministerial.—• A cablegram states that the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, with a party including Miss Jean Mackenzie,. Mr A. D. Macintosh, of In, temal Affairs, has arrived at Washington, en route to London. Petty-officer A. Williamson, electrical artificer, has returned from naval service abroad to liis parents’ home at Highgate, Roslyn. He is accompanied by his wife and child. Professor J. N. Findlay, formerly of the 'University of Otago, after 1 spending a year as professor of philosophy at Rhodes. University College, Grahamstown, Soutli Africa, has been appointed to the’’chair of philosophy at the University* of Natal. He will go to Pietermaritzburg to take, up his appointment in March. The visit to New Zealand and Australia by Mr Solon E. Low, leader of the Social Credit Party of Canada, has been postponed until August of next year, says an Association message from Wellington. Advice to this effect 1 was received from Mr. Low. by .the New Zea-. land Social Credit Association. Until recently Mr Low was Minister of Finance in the province of Alberta.

Mr J. R. G, Hanlon, of the Public Works Department, Dunedin, is advised that he has passed the examina- . tion for Associate Membership of the. Institute of Structural Engineers, and. has been awarded the Wallace Prize, which is given to the candidate who obtains the highest marks in the paper on “ Theory of Structure (Advanced).” This covers the whole associate member ■ examination, for which competition is world wide, and while the actual value of the prize is small, it is a highlycoveted and strongly-contested award. General George Carpenter, the international leader of the Salvation Army, acompanied.by Mrs. Carpenter, is.,expected to visit Dunedin from January 17 to January 22 in the course of an evangelical campaign throughout the Dominion. He is engaged at present oh a similar campaign in Australia. Wing-commander J. M. Checketts, D. 5.0., D.F.C., of Invercargill, is now administration ■ officer at the .Royal . New Zealand Air Force station at Wigram. He has succeeded Wingcommander R. D. Max, D. 5.0., D.F.C., who has been granted a! permanent commission in the Royal Air Force. Wing-commander Checketts was at one time commander of the New Zealand Spitfire Squadron. News has been received in Wellington that Major Kenneth J. Frazer,. M. has received an appointment in the administrative branch of the.. Colonial Service, and will shortly leave London for Palestine, where he is to be stationed. Major Frazer, who is the younger son of Sir Francis and Lady .Frazer’, ’Was formerly on the staff of j the Bank of New .Zealand at , Wellington. l ' He left New Zealand with the first 'echelon 'and. served through the African and Italian campaigns. For some months after the cessation-of hostilities he was New Zealand liaison officer at Allied Headquarters at Caserta (Italy), and is at present in London. * Registered at the City Hotel are Mr R.
