FAMILY TRAGEDY
CAR PLUNGES INTO GULLY PARENTS KILLED-DAUGHTERS INJURED (P.A.) WANGANUI, Dec. 23. A woman was killed and her husband died of injuries in the Wanganui Hospital as the result of an accident on Gentle Annie Hill, 11J miles from Wanganui, early this afternoon. The car in which they were travelling also had as passengers the three adult daughters of the couple who were killed.. It plunged over a bank and rolled iritd a gully 230 ft below the road. —Killed.— . Mrs Olive Luke, of 31 Victoria avenue, Palmerston North. —Died of Injuries.— Charles Roland Luke, engineer, 64, of the same address. —lnjured. Miss Helen Luke, aged 28,, a sus-. pected fracture of the left foreatm and back injuries. . Miss Olive. Alison Luke, aged 26, concussion and injuries to the back. ■ . Miss Nancy Luke, aged 20, a suspected fracture of the left leg and concussion. All three were reported to-night as comfortable. Mr Luke, his wife, and three daughters were travelling from Palmerston North to Parikino, some 15 miles from Wanganui, on the Wanganui-Pipiriki road, where they intended visiting friends. The car was descending the Gentle Annie, one of the steepest hills on the route, and at a sharp bend it left the road and rolled down the hillside. In spite of her injuries, Miss Nancy Luke went for assistance, and the injured were taken to hospital.
