MAREO CASE
APPEAL PENDING' (P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 20. A motion has bene filed at the office of the Court of Appeal in Wellington on behalf \ of Eric Mareo, aged 53, a musician, at present serving a life sentence for the murder of his wife, asking for an extension of • time to apply for leave" to appeal. The motion was based on the grounds that" the Criminal Appeal Amendment Act became law on De- , cember 7, and the right of appeal only then became available by virtue of the Act.' ' Mareo's wife died in the Auckland Hospital in April, 1935, the cause of, death being stated as veronal poisoning.
