WITHHOLDING OF TAXES SUGGESTED

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, November 7. Refusal to pay social security and income taxes as an effective action to counter the passing of the Electoral Amendment Bill was approved at a meeting of the Kaipara sub-provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union at AVaiwera to-day. It was unanimously decided to withhold the taxes until the Government gave a satisfactory assurance that the Bill would not be put into operation without submitting it to the people at a referendum. Meetings of all branches in the Kaipara sub-province are to be held within a week to implement the plan as quickly as possible. The Auckland provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union was communicated with immediately after the meeting, and the executive was asked to approach all sub-provinces in order to put the scheme into operation throughout the Auckland province. The hope was expressed that the other provinces would follow suit. , There are 15 branches in the Ivaipara sub-province, which extends from ITenderso-i rud Albany to Kaiwaika, and 40 delegates representing all these branches attended the meeting.
