FISH INDUSTRY

DELICENSING ANNOUNCED ■ TRANSFER TO MARINE DEPARTMENT (Special.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 8. From to-naorrow the industry described as the “ taking of fish for 6ule ” would be delicensed from the provisions of tile Industrial Efficiency Act, said the Minister of Industries ntod Commerce, Mr Sullivan, to-day. The Minister said that step followed the delicensing of other sections of the industry last August. The Government intended to substitute for licensing by the Bureau of Industry a form of licensing to be administered by the fisheries branch of the Marine Department, and legislation to amend the Fisheries Act would probably be introduced to-day. He pointed out that although it was no longer necessary to obtain a license from the Bureau of Industry to take fish for sale, it was still necessary to secure a license from the Marine Department before operating a fishing vessel. Persons contemplating commercial fishing activities should consult the Marine Department before proceeding with their proposals after the Fisheries Amendment Bill became law. All applications would ,be dealt with expeditiously. Included in that Bill would be provision automatically enabling those holding industrial fishing licenses as at November 1 last to qualify for licenses from the Marine Department.
