PICTURE THEATRES

GRAND. A thrilling* technicolour film, ‘Crash Dive,’ had pride of place in yesterday s change of programme at the Grand. Starring Tyrone Power, this is a picture of America’s fighting submarines, and their story is one of intense action. From the opening scene, with its aweinspiring panorama of the submarineinfested Atlantic, right down to the romantic scene between Tyrone Power and Anne Baxter, the film is a series of thrills. Lieutenant Power is assigned to duty on board a submarine at New London, and Dana Andrews plays the part of Power’s senior officer, a young man who has raised himself from the ranks. Anne Baxter is the leading lady. A gay, romantic drama, ‘ Accent on Love,’ with George Montgomery, Osa Massen, and Stanley Clemente in the featured roles, is the supporting picture. MAYFAIR. * The Cross of Lorraine,’ Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer’s drama o!f French soldiers interned in a German prison camp, was screened at the Mayfair yesterday. This is a factual story of rigours endured by French prisoners of war following the Nazi invasion. An entire Nazi military prison camp was reconstructed for the film, and since nothing but Germanapproved photographs of such camps were available publicly, a good deal of smuggled material had to be used. The cast is headed by Gene Kelly, Jean Pierre Aumont, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Peter Lorre, Richard Whorf, and Joseph Calleia. The associate film is ‘ Sudan,’ screened in beautiful technicolour, and featuring Jon Hall, Maria Montez, and Turhan Bey.
