370 MEN RETURN IN AIRCRAFT CARRIER H.M.S. EMPRESS~AT WELLINGTON (P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 4. For the first time since the war began Wellington people were able to go aboard and inspect a British aircraft carrier to-day, when H.M.S. Empress berthed at the Aotea quay, bringing home 370 naval officers and men: "Most of the New Zealanders had served in the East Indies. They.were quickly disembarked and assembled at the clearing station, where they met next of kin and were given an official Welcome. H.M.S. Empress will remain in Wellington, according to present arrangements, till Tuesday, when she will ve'turn to England via Australia and Suez. She will go into dock to-mor-row for minor- repairs. Hundreds <f visitors thronged the hangar and flight deck this afternoon, when for three hours the ship was thrown open to the public. Among the official party welcoming the New Zealanders were the Minister of Finance, 'Mr Nash, the Minister of Defence,' Mr Jones, the Minister of Rehabilitation, Mr Skinner, Mr T.. L. Macdonald, M.P., representing the Opposition, and the Mayor, Mr W. Apple-' ! ton.
