POOR PROSPECTS
NEW ZEALANDERS IN MELBOURNE GUP
SYDNEY, October 22
Since Sleepy Fox won liis . first two races in Sydney and Immediate won the two runs of the, Camelia Stakes, New Zealand horses have failed badly, says the ! Sun’s ’ turf editor, who is now in Alelbourne. Although the Cup meetings are not concluded.. they do not seem to have any further prospects, he adds. Neither Immediate nor High Play was particularly expertly handled at Caulfield on but at least they Showed up in their races, which is more than can be said for Royal Flight, who looked very backward with her long, hairy winter coat. First In has gone wrong, and there does not seem to be much hope of Typhoon, striking form. Strange things, however, can happen in racing, and New Zealanders recalled Wotan and ( Catalogue. who upset all ideas in ’ their Alelbourne Cups. This year, however, it seems clear that some of the New Zealand horses, if not all of them, with the .exception of Sleepy Fox, were asked To race too soon after uncomfortable and long journeys across the Tasman.
