JUNTA IN CONTROL

PRESIDENT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY (Rec. 12.5 p.m.) CARACAS, Oct. 21. The revolutionary junta broadcast a proclamation announcing that the junta controls the country, including the huge oilfields area. President Medina and the presidential candidate, Lopez, were both taken into custody. The Associated Press says the junta had previously announced that it would respect all contracts made with foreign oil companies. The junta is headed by ißomulo Betancourt, a former Communist, who resigned from the party and renounced its creed.
