SOUTH ISLANDERS SCORE HIGHLAND SCOTT'S GOOi! DOUBLE The Auckland Trotting Club’s Spring Meeting was opened at Epsom in fine but windy weather. The attendance was 17,600. The track was in good. order, aud the totalisator handled £129,432. compared with £87,407, an increase of £42,025. ' South Island horses won seven races, Highland Scott revealing outstanding form to win the Victorv and Electric Handicaps. The only local winner, Kewpie’s Crown, paid nearly three score. After the Mountain Handicap, at the instigation of the stipendiary steward, an inquiry was held into the running of Echoist, who, finished, third. The allegation was that Echoist had paced during the race. After considering the evidence, the stewards decided to give L.
