In districts where furniture of the necessary standard can be made, furniture purchased by ex-servicemen with the rehabilitation free-of-interest £IOO loan / will have to bear the standard specifications mark laid down by the New Zealand Standards Institute. This will take effect as from November 1, states tho (Rehabilitation Department, which adds that the specifications are to ensure that the furniture supplied to ex-servicemeu is of a high standard of quality. Those specifications have been agreed upon after consultation between the Rehabilitation Department, the State Advances Corporation, the Standards Institute and the furniture manufacturing trade, and. will have the effect .of furniture having to pass the test of quality desired before it leaves the factory'. “ Regarding the cost of furniture,” continues the statement, “ quotations have been received from manufacturers for furniture made according .to the standards. The object is to make sure that an ex-serviceman gets the greatest value for the money he spends, and, taken generally, these quotations seem to satisfy that requirement. The standard laid down, although a minimum one, is high. According to the quotations received it will mean that the £IOO loan at .present available will go a long way towards providing the necessities of' the normal everyday home.”
