BRITISH WOMAN ATTACHE

SOMETHING NEW IN DIPLOMACY . WASHINGTON, October 20. Mrs Marjorie Spikes,-of London, began something new in diplomacy when she took over a post at the British Embassy as Attache in Charge of Women’s Affairs, says a ‘ New .York Times ’ correspondent. At a Press conference she termed the job an experiment, and defined it as a .liaison with American women’s organisations, ipar--ticularlv ’in the" field’ of w'elfare,:'

“ I expect , you to take a' leaf out of our book and to send someone to Britain,’ Mrs Spikes said. “I hope to travel throughout America, meeting women’s groups and finding out the new things that this country is doing in education, particularly social and psychiatric work, housing, ana other fields of women’s interests. I think it'logical that posts such as mine may eventually work into the scheme of the economic and social: council; of r the United Nations organisation, since, the problems with which I am working are international in scope.”
